Fair photos to tell a thousand words
Media Release: Tuesday, April 3, 2012
The organisers of Wilston Winter Magic Fair on June 3 are asking the public to take a trip down memory lane and identify friends and family from nearly a decade ago.
The organisers have dug into the archives and unearthed photos from 2003, when the fair was last held.
Headonism Hair Salon owner and fair president James Cremin, who took the 2003 photos, is posting them on the fair’s Facebook page. He called on residents who recognised someone else’s or maybe even their own face in the photos to tag and comment on them online.
“Lots of people have fond memories of the fair before it went into a hiatus. We want to recapture thecommunity spirit that made the fair such a success and the old photos are the ideal vehicle to do it,’’ he said.
“I remember the day I took the photos and I would love to see that atmosphere of togetherness return with the fair this year.”
James is also hoping anyone else with photos of the fair can add to the online collection.
Among James’ subjects in 2003 was Bradley Turner, whose five-year-old smile radiates from behind his facepaint. Now 13 and living in McDowall, Bradley plans to return to Wilston with his two younger brothers for this year’s fair.
“We’re going back to the fair this year as a family and I’m looking forward to the entertainment,’’ he said.
Visit www.facebook.com/wilstonwintermagicfair or www.wilstonvillagefair.org.au to comment on and tag the photos.
On Sunday, June 3 Wilston Village along Kedron Brook Rd will be transformed into a winter wonderland for families, children and the wider community. Opening at 11am, the fair will bring to life a local community of artists, performers, professionals, entertainment and food. As the evening descends and the lights come out a finale of music, food, wine and celebration will close out the evening at 7pm.
